IN THEIR WORDS – LUKE TEDESCO ROUND 16

Friday, July 10, 2015 - 2:44 PM by Luke Tedesco

IT HAS been a really exciting WAFL season so far as evidenced by the tightly compacted positioning of the ladder.

I can’t recall playing a season of footy where the current ladder position counted for so little entering a game. I would imagine each team rightfully holds the opinion that their best footy is capable of winning any game regardless of the opponent.

We are no different.

The win against Subiaco probably generated more discussion outside our club than within. It was one of the most determined victories I’ve seen our group play in. Being restricted to only two players on the interchange for the second half and playing in warm conditions, the boys were too spent post game to be consumed with the possibilities of beating a premiership contender.

This week’s game against Perth provides another challenge for us. Their recent form is not indicative of their season record. On a number of occasions this year, they have dominated patches in games and were probably unlucky not to pinch a couple more wins. They are not too dissimilar to some of the inconsistencies we displayed in the Swan Districts and East Perth comeback victories. Our boys will have to be at their best to give us the best chance of winning.

Unfortunately I will be spectating for the next month or so following my calf injury. Fortunately (more so a sign of my age) I have experience in rehabilitating calves. It’s always tough being on the injured list and not being able to contribute on the field.

For me though, the lure of getting back on the field before season end serves as prime motivation. I’m looking forward to that individual challenge and then hopefully joining the team for a push towards finals.
