FALCONS WELL REPRESENTED AT COMMUNITY INVITATION ART AWARDS
THE West Perth Football Club was well represented at the City of Joondalup's 2014 Community Invitation Art Awards.
The Community Invitation Art Award exhibited the works of 13 professional artists from across Western Australia working in a variety of different mediums including painting, photography, sculpture and installation.
The City of Joondalup was proud to have presented the annual Community Invitation Art Award exhibition at Lakeside Shopping City which ran from Sunday October 19 to Friday October 31.
Leonora artist Roderick Sprigg had two entries and both reflected an Aussie Rules flavour and in particular the West Perth Football Club.
West Perth president Brett Raponi was so taken with the art he tracked down Roderick to compliment him on his work.
"I was strolling through Lakeside Joondalup and heard the Falcons them song humming away. This is what caught my initial attention," Raponi said.
"To see so many jewelry boxes in red and blue and the Falcons anthem playing out loud and then the framed piece really had profound effect on me.
"I thought for an artist to go to so much bother to portray our football club in this fashion then he must be hard core Falcon. I contacted Roderick and found he resides in Leonora but was on his way to Perth to pack away his exhibition into storage.
"Well he is not a 'died in the wool' Falcon but Roderick was in one of our development squads in his younger days and as it turns out he knows a few former Falcons because his home town is Mukinbudin. Roderick is also brother to former Perth WAFL footballer Justin Sprigg.
"He just thought because the display was taking place at Lakeside Joondalup that he would choose a theme that best supported the community and the Falcons were it."
Roderick has kindly agreed to loan the Falcons his portrait of 'The Footballer'. Raponi said "a piece such as this should be on display for all Falcons fans to see and enjoy. This will hang proudly with club memorabilia in the halls of HBF Arena."
