Ben King has announced his retirement from the West Perth Football Club after 6 seasons and 68 League Games. The no-nonsense defender was recruited to the Club via Gin Gin FC and debuted in 2014 playing 4 games that season and being a member of the 2014 Reserves Premiership team.
King returned to Gin Gin in 2015 before coming back to the Falcons in 2016 and establishing himself in defence playing 12 league games.
2018 was King’s best season where he often played taller and successfully curbed the influence of some of the competitions premiers’ forwards and helped his team make it to the Grand Final. Although that day belonged to Subiaco, King proved his value as a key member of the Falcons defensive unit.
Over the past two seasons King would add a further 17 games to his tally. Ben had his fair share of injuries throughout his career and showed plenty of determination and courage to play through them. 2020 was a frustrating year with coronavirus shortening the season and several injuries making it difficult for Ben to string games together.
Ben is a successful owner his own carpentry business “Kingas Carpentry”, and when advising the Club that he has played his last game Ben expressed that the demands on his time to focus on his business meant that it was going to be too difficult to commit to the level required to be successful at WAFL football.
The ultimate clubman and team mate we wish Ben all the very best in his future and his next chapter and thank him for his wonderful contribution to the West Perth FC.
