Wanneroo to Battle Warwick in 8/9 Boys Cup!

Thursday 30th Junes saw the last round of the West Perth District’s WAFC 8/9 Boys Cup completed. With all scores finalised, winners for both Division 1 and Division 2 (Quinten Lynch Division) emerged, each proud of their accomplishments to date for 2011. The winners of the Quinten Lynch Division, Prendiville Catholic College were a tough team to beat for the duration of the competition with closest rivals, St. Stephens (Carramar) still a few kicks behind them when they came head to head in round 3. Prendiville will be presented with their shield at an up-coming assembly to recognise the hard work their team put into the 2011 season and will also be encouraged to take the next step up in 2012 and compete in Division 1.

Division 1 Champions were Wanneroo SHS who also remained undefeated for the entire competition finishing with 6 wins from 6 games. Congratulations to Shane Joyce and his team who were awarded the West Perth District Metro Champions Shield.

As champions of Division 1, Wanneroo were handed the task of competing for the title of overall West Perth District Champion against our country counterparts. On Wednesday 3rd August, Wanneroo travelled to Brookton to take on Country 8/9 Boys winners in Kulin. Wanneroo fought through tough wet and windy conditions to come out on top and take the title of West Perth District 8/9 Champions with a final score of 15.11.101 defeating Kulin 3.2.20.

Wanneroo will face Subiaco’s District Champion in Warwick SHS this Thursday, 18th August. The West Perth District wishes the boys the best of luck in progressing through to the next stage of finals and hopefully onto the grand final which will be played as a curtain raiser to the West Coast Eagles v Adelaide game.
