AFL School Ambassador Induction and PD 2012
Posted on 31/01/2012
The WA Football Districts have a successful relationship with the schools in their area, providing AFL clinics, school based competitions such as the Eagles Cup and Dockers Shield, as well as classroom based curriculum activities such as Design-a-Jumper and AFL Quiz, free of charge.
One unique program that has seen AFL participation explode is the AFL School Ambassadors Program (AFLSA’s). AFLSA’s are teachers who actively promote Australian Football to strengthen the relationship between Districts, schools and the WA Football Commission whilst providing schools with unique opportunities in AFL.
To become an AFLSA, teachers must be inducted into the program. This involves two, two-hour training workshops at Arena Joondalup- home of West Perth Football Club. It covers both curriculum and physical activity and is FREE. Participants receive AFL resources and equipment for themselves and their school each year the teacher remains an Ambassador. AFLSA status is for the person and will remain constant even if a teacher changes schools.
The West Perth District in conjunction with the West Australian Football Commission invites ALL teachers who are passionate about AFL to attend Induction Training in 2012. Existing AFL School Ambassadors who wish to be updated on new programs and initiatives are invited to the Refresher. Please see the details below:
Induction- Thursday 8th March and Thursday 15th March
Refresher- Tuesday 13th March
Where: Arena Joondalup
Time: 4pm-6pm
For those who are being inducted, both Thursday sessions must be completed to gain full Ambassador Status. This includes: resources for the school every year including footballs, opportunities for AFL/WAFL player visits and competitions which are only available for ambassador schools and District specific School Ambassador polo.
The 4 hours of training also goes towards your WACOT professional development requirements.
'The AFL Ambassador program has provided many benifits to me and my school. The resources, professional development, contacts and rewards have helped me to promote AFL at Wanneroo SHS and within the district. The West Perth District makes it very easy to be accredited and provides outstanding support for delivery of AFL programs and organisation of teams. I encourage all teachers to get involved in this fantastic program.'- Justin Burt, Wanneroo SHS Ambassador and 3 Time High School Ambassador of the Year Award Winner.
