Become a Coach
The AFL Foundation Accreditation is the newly designed Level 1 Accreditation. This course is designed for entry level coaches to learn about the general principle of coaching in our game. The Foundation course is split with specific courses for junior (U7-U12) coaches, youth (U13-U17) coaches and senior (U18-senior) coaches.
This is solely an online course that takes around 90mins to complete. Once completed, coaches gain access of the CoachAFL platform which is full of coaching resources, activities and education opportunities.
Course Fees: CoachAFL annual membership and the online Foundation Course is completely free to all WA coaches!

What is a Coach?
Coaches are the backbone of community football, leading 1.5 million participants onto the ground every week. That’s why CoachAFL is here to support you with the tools you’ll need on your coaching journey. Everyone coaching AFL is required to become accredited members of CoachAFL.
Get accredited, get educated & be the best coach you can be.
Who can Coach?
Everyone can coach as long as they are 16 years of age or older.
Develops your personal skills
Coaching enables you to develop planning, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with younger children and their parents.
Enjoyment and satisfaction
Great joy and satisfaction can be felt when you know you have had a significant part to play in a child's development, not just through football but life skills as well. It is well known that the coach is one of the most influential people in a child's life.
Gatekeepers to participation
Coaches are the main reason why players decide to stay in the game or leave. If we can have quality coaches in the community who can build a learning environment that is fun, enjoyable and rewarding for the players, parents and supporters, then they will remain in our great game.

FAQs Coaching
Who can I contact to find out more information?
The best way to have any of your questions answered in regard to CoachAFL is to get in touch with the coaching support team via email coaching@wafc.com.au
Will my accreditation be nationally recognised?
Yes! CoachAFL accreditation is the National Accreditation standard and has been developed in conjunction with all state and territory affiliates.
Does my Foundation Coach accreditation allow me to coach any age group?
Foundation accreditation is the first level of accreditation and provides accreditation for coaches at a community, school or recreation level. It is recommended that coaches complete the Foundation Coach course relevant to the playing age they coach. E.g. A coach of an Under 10s team should complete the Junior Coaching Course.
When do I need to re-accredit?
CoachAFL Memberships and Accreditation expire at the end of each calendar year on December 31. At the beginning of each season coaches need to update their membership as this is connected to your registration as a coach.
