International Round

2018 International Round - International Football Festival

AFL - Uniting Australia

Unique jumper to embrace the World

West Perth Football Club's league team will play in a special one-off World Jumper in Round 16 to embrace its international community and build on the successes of this event now run annually since 2011.

West Perth CEO Linda Hamersley said that after the success of its International Round over recent years, with more than 5000 people attending the event, the club had recognized the need to further explore the initiative. The Falcons District do an exceptional job working through our local community- we are looking at a crowd of more than 5000 people this year.

It’s an exciting concept and last year was a huge success. In 2017 we will return to the events roots embracing our entire community, with a particular focus on those that have immigrated from the United Kingdom. Our 2018 jumper is representative of the large population (more than 50%) of the City of Joondalup and Wanneroo commnities that have moved to Australian within the last ten years," she said.

The promotion is being driven by the West Perth Football District with the support of the West Perth Football Club Board and the West Australian Football Commission.

The game against Subiaco on Saturday June 30 is tipped to attract another strong crowd made up of footy die-hards and new Australians. We are  excited to announce that through a partnership with the Edmund Rice Centre a multicultural football team - The Edmund Rice Girls Academy will play a team from the Ocean Ridge Junior Football Club before the match. The Edmund Rice Centre WA has a proud history and an on-going commitment to assisting people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, and the West Perth District are proud partner with them.

West Perth Development Officer Andrew O'Brien said the aim was to engage new Australians and promote Australia’s indigenous game while welcoming new communities to football.

The West Perth District (Hillarys north to Two Rocks) has the fastest growing migrant and multicultural demographic in the state and includes:
• 67% of people with one or more parents born overseas
• 46% of people born overseas (Australian average 20%)
• 9 of 28 suburbs with a UK birth population greater than 28%
• 9% of the population has migrated in the last 3 years

The West Perth Football District will visit 30 local Primary Schools leading up to the game to promote the game.
