The West Perth District is proud to announce that Paul Gronow, of the Joondalup/Kinross junior football club is the Volunteer of the Year.
Paul, who has been an outstanding volunteer, now goes into the State final which will be announced at the Sandover Medal.
In the 10 years that Paul has volunteered in our club, he has undertaken many various positions, from coach to committee member.
Whilst on the Committee Paul has looked after many roles, including but not limited to the roles of Sponsorship Coordinator, Vice President and for the last 2 years, Special Projects.
The role of Special Projects Officer was created for Paul to enable him to continue to oversee and coordinate the 2 biggest projects in our clubs history.
Firstly, several years ago the committee of the day had a vision that lights would be needed at Windermere Oval to facilitate the growing training needs of our club as we were starting a growing phase with many more teams expected in the older grades. Paul in his role as Vice President Admin took up the challenge with both hands and our first 500 odd page submission was written and completed by Paul and submitted to the City of Joondalup and the Department of Sport and Recreation for consideration in the CSRFF grants that were on offer.
His determination and work paid off and in 2007, 4 lighting towers took pride and place at our home ground. Paul was also the driving force behind our club raising well over $20,000.00 as our share of the project.
In 2006 our committee, together with the Joondalup Cricket Club committee, (who are our sharing partners in the Windermere Park Clubrooms), decided that as our clubs were growing rapidly, we needed to look at extending our existing clubrooms, build home and away change rooms and also on site storage facilities that would save both clubs at least $1500.00 a year.
At our AGM in 2006, Paul was nominated as President for the coming season, but declined the nomination to instead concentrate on the clubroom extension project, and hence the portfolio of Special Projects was formed.
Paul has spent an exhaustive amount of hours on this project, as he IS THE driving force. Yet another 500 odd page application, completed by Paul was submitted and we have again recieved approval from the City of Joondalup and the Department of Sport and Recreation for another CSRFF grant for the extensions. This time this project is currently costed at $220,000.00.
The lighting and clubroom projects were absolute requirements for our club as we are now approaching 800 members, and we can now have the facilities to be able to handle this great growth in our club, and without Paul and the time that he has dedicated to these projects I doubt that we would be in our current position.
I would like to also add, that for season 2008 Paul has not had a child playing in our club, and yet, has still been the driving force behind the Clubroom extension project.
Paul and his wife Anita, for the last few years have created a powerpoint presentation for our Youth teams for their presentation night that includes a power point presentation for the Fairest and Best Vote Count.
Paul is one in a million, who looks toward the future of our club, our great game, and to the enjoyment of our future members.
We are nominating Paul as the RAC Volunteer of the Year not only for the effort he has put in for the last 10 years but also for his effort that our members for many years will enjoy.
