FALCONS FALL SHORT OF TIGERS BUT COLTS GO TOP

Monday, May 4, 2015 - 3:44 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth couldn’t quite back up its stunning performance five days earlier losing to Claremont by 20 points at the Showground on Saturday but there was better news with the reserves and colts winning, and colts shooting to the top of the ladder.

West Perth was on a high coming off its 26-point comeback in the last few minutes against Swan Districts at HBF Arena on Monday, but the Tigers got the first goal of the game on Saturday and never surrendered their lead to end up winning 12.11 (83) to 8.15 (63).

The Falcons also had to watch on as former West Perth big men Mark Seaby, Mitch Andrews and Kepler Bradley all had an impact in the win for Claremont up against their old side.

IN THEIR WORDS – CHRIS KEUNEN ROUND 7

Friday, May 1, 2015 - 10:06 PM - by Chris Keunen

IT IS always a great feeling walking off the field after a win, but last week went up a notch after such a massive comeback. The crowd were certainly pumped and we as players were stoked to have pulled off such a great win.

I'm sure plenty of people had written us off when Swans went out to a 26-point lead, in fact my dad turned the radio off saying we were done. The self belief the playing group has was certainly seen by all who were listening and at the ground.

When we kicked the first goal in the come back we gained a little confidence and after the second, we were feeling pretty up. At this point it would have been hard for many sides to beat us. We were on a roll, although we did miss a few chances to put them way earlier.

Friday, May 1, 2015 - 5:43 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth will be looking to continue its momentum from a stunning comeback win over Swan Districts on Monday when the Falcons take on the winless Claremont at the Showground on Saturday.

West Perth looked dead and buried entering time-on in the last quarter on Monday against Swan Districts at HBF Arena, but were able to kick the last five goals of the game in the final 10 minutes to pull off the most remarkable of victories.

That improved the Falcons to a 3-2 record on the season and into fifth position on the ladder leading into Saturday's clash at the Showground against Claremont.

SIX FALCONS NAMED IN WAFL STATE SQUAD

Friday, May 1, 2015 - 12:38 PM - by Chris Pike

SIX West Perth players have been named in the initial WAFL State squad for the game on Saturday May 23 against South Australia at Lathlain Park.

The initial squad of 36 players has been announced and that includes six West Perth premiership players from 2013 – Aaron Black, Laine Rasmussen, Chris Keunen, Jay van Berlo, Shane Nelson and Andrew Strijk.

It is tremendous reward for those six players who have continued their tremendous form to start the 2015 WAFL season, and there are some other Falcons who could consider themselves unlucky but can still press their claims for a place in the squad between now and May 23.

HAD TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED

Tuesday, April 28, 2015 - 2:13 PM - by DARRELL KENT

TO SAY that the Falcons got out of jail at HBF Arena on Monday would be an understatement. At the 22-minute mark they trailed by 26 points and looked well and truly out of it. Even Bill Monaghan admitted that the coaches had turned off their computers and were discussing how to get the team up for the game next Saturday. But in a remarkable turn of events West Perth had the last eight scoring shots of the game, kicked the last five goals and pulled off an improbable seven-point victory.

FALCONS PULL OFF REMARKABLE COMEBACK TO BEAT SWANS

Tuesday, April 28, 2015 - 1:52 PM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth pulled off a remarkable comeback victory from being 26 points down entering time-on of the final quarter to kick the last five goals of the game to beat Swan Districts by seven points in the Anzac Round clash at HBF Arena.

The Falcons appeared headed for a loss when Swans led by 26 points following Matt Rogers' second goal of the last quarter and time was beginning to run out.

However, West Perth wasn’t about to give up and Luke Meadows made the margin 20 points, Matt Fowler brought it back to 14, Kris Shannon made it seven, Jay van Berlo made it one and then after scores were tied up, Fowler kicked the match winner.

That capped off a remarkable 10 minutes with five goals for West Perth to record the stunning 12.12 (84) to 12.5 (77) victory in front of a crowd of more than 3000 people at HBF Arena.

ANZAC ROUND PREVIEW V SWAN DISTRICTS

Sunday, April 26, 2015 - 9:40 AM - by Chris Pike

WEST Perth and Swan Districts have now locked in to become traditional Anzac Day weekend rivals, generally have precious little separating and deliver some of the more fascinating WAFL battles of any season, and there's every reason to expect something similar this Monday at HBF Arena.

The Falcons and Swans clash for a third successive Anzac Day weekend this Monday at Joondalup's HBF Arena and with both teams entering coming off a loss, and with identical 2-2 records, it again shapes as a fascinating contest.

West Perth started the season with a disappointing loss to South Fremantle but then bounced back handing Peel its only loss of the season and then thrashing Perth before losing to Subiaco a fortnight ago despite holding the reigning premiers to a scoreless opening quarter at Medibank Stadium.

IN THEIR WORDS – JAY VAN BERLO ANZAC DAY

Friday, April 24, 2015 - 9:45 AM - by Jay van Berlo

OBVIOUSLY it's a big game for us this week with both sides currently sitting at 2-2 when we take on Swan Districts at HBF Arena on the Anzac Day public holiday.

But importantly it's a chance to get back to playing the way we want to play as we were disappointed with the way we went about it after quarter-time of our last game against Subiaco, so we feel like we have a few things to rectify from that game that was seems like it was forever ago now.

We have a great rivalry with Swans that has developed over the years where many close games have taken place. I guess both clubs are extremely competitive and proud with loyal supporters and we always seem to match up fairly evenly so it's no surprise most games between us are decided by a goal or two.

IN THEIR WORDS – LUKE TEDESCO ROUND 5

Monday, April 20, 2015 - 1:08 PM - by Luke Tedesco

FOOTBALL at WAFL level presents challenges every week for our playing group. Getting over little injuries or sore spots in order to prove match fitness, creating strategies for our opposition and the unknown wait for team selection all present obstacles for the boys to work through.

We now face the challenge of negotiating a 16-day break from the loss against Subiaco until our next game against Swan Districts.

Whilst it is a good opportunity to freshen up the body and the mind, we still need to put in the work to maintain our levels of fitness and work on our game plan. Fortunately we have a very driven group and I’m confident the time off won’t be to our detriment.
