Those who got to Lathlain Park early enough on Saturday would have seen a familiar sight in guernsey number 10 gracing the field once more.
It had been exactly one year since Matt went down with a serious knee injury that required a reconstruction. Coincidently it was at Lathlain Park last year in round 9. It was his 59th senior game for West Perth.
The tough as teak midfielder, whom hails from Southern Cross, underwent a surgery in June last year and commenced a rehabilitation program. The return date target was always Round 9 or 10 of this season and Matt did not let the fans down.
Paying the in the reserves Matt reminded us his entire goal kicking abilities booting 2 for the day. His hard in and under approach in the midfield has been missed, especially considering Rob Hunt has also been out with a second knee reconstruction.
Matthews’s successful return to the playing field last Saturday will certainly give TC and his selectors something extra to think about when selecting sides in the coming two weeks.
