Lloyd to debut for Falcons
Lloyd to debut for Falcons
19-year old Matty Lloyd will make his league debut for West Perth this weekend against Peel Thunder. Lloyd was recruited to the Falcons after the VFL Season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation in Victoria. Since moving to Perth and completing his mandatory quarantine, Lloyd has spent the past three weeks playing in the Reserves applying his craft and learning the game plan.
General Manager of Football – Steve Trewhella commented on Lloyd’s elevation to the league side. “Since arriving in Perth Matty has done everything right. He has fitted in really well with the playing group and has quickly established relationships, gained respect and earned trust across all levels of the club. Matty has been on a steep learning curve but has taken it all in his stride delivering three very good performances in the Reserves. He deserves his opportunity and it’s a credit to himself and his family who have been very supportive of Matty’s move to the west to pursue his football aspirations”.
Coach Valentine was pleased to see another player debut in what a short season is. Lloyd joins Tom Boyes & Zak Patterson who both debuted in Round 1 this year taking the season’s tally to 3 debutants.
“When players come into our program, we just need them to play their role for the team and this will be no different for Matty. He knows our expectations and we know what he will bring to the table this weekend. I’m very pleased for him, as a young man who is prepared to leave the family home at 19 years of age and move to the other side of Australia is a big move for anyone. Matt has shown a determination and a strong will to do everything he possibly can to be the best he can and that’s all we could ask”.
As well as Lloyd coming into the 22, Laine Rasmussen returns after being a late withdrawal in last weeks Round 2 encounter. Making way is Ben King and Zak Patterson who suffered a broken hand against South Fremantle.
