Ducky wow's them in Leederville
Last Friday hard core Falcon fanatics attended Kailis Bros in Leederville for an afternoon of food, fun and entertainment. DVD highlights on the big screen from 1978 through to 1995 provided the perfect entre as guests mingled and re connected with each other. Amongst the eclectic group in attendance was 1971 Simpson Medallist Shane Sheridan, 1975Premiership player Laurie Heal. Past player Russell Ellen and current day stars Shane Nelson and Dean Munns also took the opportunity to enjoy the comradeship that the “Garlic Munches” are well known for.
Senior coach Geoff Valentine gave a back ground into his successful playing career which included the 1995 premiership and his progression into senior coaching. Geoff gave a candid view of how the Club is progressing in his first season and indicated the support networks around Arena Joondalup for the coaches and players is strong. 1978 Club Captain and 2008 Ball Legend John Duckworth then gave an outstanding display of after dinner speaking. He had the audience in raptures and longing for a by gone era. In front of sold out house Ducky wowed the faithful with stories about the coaches he has played under including Campbell, Cometti and one of his favourites in Percy Johnson. Stories of how the committee of the day sold him to Central District Football Club whilst on holiday in Melbourne to playing against
Ron Boucher, Graham Moss and Barry Cable.
Of great merriment was John’s explanation of how he had to sometimes take matters in his own hands when he thought the umpires were not providing enough protection to him or the little blokes in his team. The 1979 Magarey medallist gave us his views on the current state of the game and what could be done to improve it. It was met with a strong round of applause. The Duckworth name is one of the great families and made a big contribution to West Perth. John is the sort of character that people within footy clubs gravitate too. Going by Friday’s event they still do.
Thank you to the team at Kailis Bros Leederville for once again supporting the Club.
