WESTERN Australia’s top AFL School Ambassadors were rewarded at a special dinner function at Subiaco Oval during August, with the best footy-promoting teachers receiving trips to the AFL Finals.
Fremantle Football Club’s Anthony Morabito and West Coast’s Brad Sheppard were on hand to present the awards at the Celebration of AFL Education Programs in WA Dinner last Wednesday, August 11.
Major awards, including trips to the AFL Grand Final, were presented to the AFLSA who has demonstrated the most outstanding service for 5 years or more (supported by Scout Entertainment), as well as the most outstanding Ambassador for 2010 (supported by BHP Billiton – Principal community partner of the West Coast Eagles).
As well as the fantastic major awards, two other terrific footy ambassadors received AFL Finals trips to the MCG for being the most outstanding Primary and High School Footy teachers.
Wanneroo Senior High School Teacher Justin Burt took home the High School Footy Teacher Award for the second year running. Justin is a passionate supporter of football within his school and the West Perth District. Wanneroo Senior High School excels in its football development programs and is the only AFL Specialist School in the local area. Justin also sits on the West Perth District Football Development Council helping grow football across the district. In 2010 Justin and Wanneroo SHS have conducted male and female football specialist classes, have fielded teams in multiple football competitions, incorporate football into all learning areas and have taken students over to Melbourne on a football learning experience.
