FALCONS BOW OUT IN A CLIFF HANGER
By Darrell Kent

West Perth were defeated in their Reserves Semi Final against East Perth on Sunday in a high quality contest. The Falcons led by a point at the first change, East Perth by a point at half time and scores were all tied up going into the last quarter but East Perth managed to get home by one straight kick. It was a fascinating game of football that had supporters on the edge of their seats until the final siren.

Regan DuckworthRegan Duckworth got the ball rolling for the Falcons when he took a courageous mark thirty metres out at the two minute mark. His accurate kick gave West Perth a one goal lead but Tim Noakes for East Perth had the reply in a minute. He was a dangerous player for East Perth all day. Cameron Branch then roved the ball from a throw in to kick a fine goal. Two more behinds to the Falcons gave them an eight point lead before Noakes was again involved when he soccered his second from the square. After another Falcon behind before an East Perth snap saw them grab the lead at the sixteen minute mark. Aaron Black then took a strong mark three minutes later and he kicked accurately to give West Perth back the lead. East Perth finished the term with two behinds to trail 3.3 (21) to 3.2 (20) at the first change.

BITTER SWEET VICTORY

A WIN TO FINISH THE SEASON
By Darrell Kent

West Perth won the match but lost the battle for fourth spot at the Arena on Saturday. The Falcons accounted for the Demons by twenty five points but East Perth defeated Claremont to take the final spot in the four. It was a bitter sweet day for supporters but the victory was a positive way to finish the season. At the end of the game, two Club stalwarts announced their retirement. Clayton Lasscock and Callum Chambers both hung up their boots after decorated careers for the Falcons. Great players and even better blokes.

West Perth commenced the game kicking to the northern end and quickly established a thirteen point lead. Anton Saylor handballed to Josh Pearce who finished on the run from forty and Jason Salecic snapped a major out of the pack to give West Perth the thirteen point lead after sixteen minutes. A free kick led to Matthew Moody kicking the first for Perth five minutes later, but the lead was extended again after Quinten Lynch took the ball out of the ruck and handballed to Jay Tindall who kicked accurately. Consecutive goals to Perth reduced the margin to one point before a strong Anton Saylor tackle was rewarded with a kick forty out. His accurate kick gave West Perth a seven point quarter time lead: 4.3 (27) to 3.2 (20).

It was a tight second quarter but the first goal for the term went to the Falcons. Brent LeCras hand balled to Anton Saylor who kicked his second. His third followed shortly after when he took a screamer in the square. Anton’s marks have been a feature of the season. The lead was out to twenty one after ten minutes. The next eight minutes belonged to Perth, who rallied to reduce the lead to just nine. A Matt Guadagnin behind stretched the lead before Callum Chambers kicked accurately from fifty. This quality finish showed that Callum still has plenty to offer. The sixteen point lead was reduced to ten just before the siren after a goal from the Demons Alexander McCleod. At the main break the Falcons led 7.7 (49) to 6.3 (39).

FALCONS GO DOWN TO IMPRESSIVE TIGERS

E-mail Print PDF

BY DARRELL KENT

Claremont showed why they are the short priced favourites to go WAFL premiers this year when they controlled the match against the Falcons at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday. They ran out comprehensive sixty eight point winners and were in charge of the game except for a short period in the second quarter when West Perth rallied to give themselves a chance at the main break.

Brent Lecras became a hundred game player for the Falcons in the game against Claremont. He won the toss and elected to kick to the Perth end but it was Claremont who controlled the first half of the term. By the fifteen minute mark they had established a twenty two point lead and the Falcons had not gotten on the scoreboard. The first Falcon goal was courtesy of Anton Saylor and it was an accurate kick forty five out from the boundary. A Claremont reply was almost simultaneous before Anton Saylor kicked his and the Falcons second. He was the recipient of a down the ground kick after Ray Bartholomew was bumped after kicking. But once again West Perth were unable to kick consecutive goals as Andrew Foster kicked his second for the Tigers. The lead was back to sixteen after a Callum Chambers left foot snap at the twenty one minute mark. It would have been a pleasing result for the Falcons if they could have stayed this close at the first change but this was not to be as Claremont kicked two more and as a result they took a twenty nine point lead into the second term. They led 7.5 (47) to 3.0 (18).
